Join Greg Palmer on a once in a lifetime wilderness nature adventure to the Valley of the Grizzly Bear!
A three hour tour will take you to the spectacular Khutzeymateen Valley, home of the Canada's only grizzly bear sanctuary. Your photography and sightseeing adventure includes the possibility of whales, seals, mountain goats, wolves, deer, sea otters, bald eagles and schools of Pacific wild salmon as we travel through the glorious coastal rainforest.
There is nothing quite like a gentle day in the out-of-doors, observing wild creatures as they roam freely in their natural habitat. Join us for a trip to secluded North Coast inlets to observe grizzly and black bears in their natural environment from the guided safety and comfort of an unobtrusive boat cruising close to the shoreline.
Our flight paths are carefully planned to ensure that we do not disturb the bears. Both grizzly and black bears range in the area we visit. They come to the freshwater streams, where they empty into salty inlets, to graze on sedges. Here, you may quietly watch as they sate their appetites and play with their young on the rocky shores. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a mother teaching her cubs how to find mussels and other sea treats along the beach, and you are sure to smile at raven's antics as he waits impatiently for his turn. Depending on season, you may also see mature and immature bald eagles soaring high above, or witness Killer whales feeding in the deep waters as we explore.
This excursion combines both boat and air travel. You will depart from the bustling Seal Cove Seaplane Base, travelling either by fixed wing aircraft or helicopter. The scenic ride to bear country is sure to thrill, as you fly over rugged and remote valleys and cirque lakes in the high sub-alpine meadows, pass over steep-walled fjords where rock faces rise sharply from the deep sea floor. The 30 minute flight takes you to our floating dock, anchored near the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary. Here, you will deplane to board our 10-passenger, covered boat for two hours of exciting exploration in the spectacular wilderness setting in the protected waters of the Khutzeymateen Inlet. Your return flight to Prince Rupert will trace a different route, no less interesting or magnificent.
This wonderful, gentle excursion is suitable for adventurers of all ages.
